5th Grade HW

I have returned to teaching this fall and I have 3 sections of 5th grade science at a small private school in central New Jersey. As a 5th grade teacher, I will also be an academic advisor and run two activity periods during the week.  I am in the process of updating my website this fall by adding new links, lessons, and activities.

I was a stay-at-home mom for the last 4 years as well as a freelance writer for BrainPOP.com these past 2 years.  Some of my activity pages have already been posted (see the Ants and Acids/Bases movies). They hope to have most of them up and ready this school year. Each movie will have an activity page, vocab list, and graphic organizer.

In addition to 5th grade, I will  be teaching 4  science classes a week at the pre-school in my neighborhood. I have never taught this age group (4-5 year olds) before so it should be fun and interesting!

I taught science for 8 years, first as a public school teacher, then as a private school teacher.  This website is a collection of my lesson plans for teaching science for grades 5 to 7. I decided to become a stay at home mom in 2004 to spend more time with my children. I am also an active member of my local twins club (Id. Boys) and I strongly suggest that all MoMs join their local chapters! Its such a great resource and its wonderful to meet fellow moms of multiples.

I originally created this web page as a resource for my students.  The idea was for them to have a place to check homework assignments, print out handouts at home, and visit safe links.  The kids loved it, I was the only teacher in my school that had a web page and it was just for them.  Since then, I have received email from all over the world, other teachers were using my page a resource for lesson plans.  What a compliment!

Since starting this site in September 1997, I have changed addresses quite a bit.  I finally decided to make a permanent home and register the domain name "middleschoolscience.com"  in 2000.  Middle school science is a delicate balance of trying to teach scientific concepts without being too "elementary" or too "high school".  I hope this web page can give you some ideas to use in your classroom.
